PayPal & PayLoadz : The Perfect Mix for Selling Downloads

by Martin Neumann on June 24, 2006

PayLoadz.gifWell-respected Gawker Media blog, Lifehacker takes a look at Payloadz in Sell downloads via PayPal with PayLoadz.

PayLoadz sells your digital goods via PayPal, by hosting your files, accepting payment from customers and redirecting them to a download page good for 48 hours to pick up their purchase.

PayLoadz basically automatically delivers your downloadable product within an instant after a purchase is made in a secure environment.

PayLoadz offers a variety of plans starting off with the Basic free service which allows 50mb of space and up to $100 in transactions per month.

A more suitable plan for the serious information publisher would be the Premium lll Plan which allows you up to $2,500 of transaction in the month for a monthly fee of $70 (with the first month for free). That amounts to 2.8% in commssion if you reach the $2,500. But lets say you only sell $1,500 for the momth - you’d end up paying 4.66% in commisions. Together with what PayPal charges, this is a little steep in my opinion.

If you don’t want to pay a fixed monthly fee you can go with a Premium Merchant Plan which has no monthly fees but takes a 15% transaction fee. For me, this seems a little excesive.

I’ll be taking a more in-depth look at PayLoadz as it will form a part of our Special Features set that will begin shortly.

I’ve never had any personal experience using PayLoadz. Anyone out there has? Let us know of your experiences.
