Free PDF Creator Software

by Martin Neumann on June 18, 2006

pdfPreviously I introduced you to a free online pdf generator - Need to Create a Quick PDF? - that allowed you to create a PDF document online within minutes.

But for those that like to have a little control (ie: like me you still feel more comfortable doing it from the desktop) then PrimoPDF may be more suitable for you.

PrimoPDF is a free PDF converter (9.8Mb). It simply acts as a printer driver so when you are ready with your document you select print but rather than printing it out you select the PrimoPDF option. From there you get a basic set of options to choose from, including various security features.

For those that just need the basics (with just a little cool stuff included) then this one is for you. For information publishers, it’s a must-have item in your bag of tools.

I used to use http://www.pdfdesk.com/winpdf.html which is weird, because it defaults to this same URL as PrimoPdf. Is it the same program? or an upgrade? Mind you, I won’t need anything new until 2007 .. things could change. I’ve been using http://fineprint.com (upgraded version)in conjunction with my tax software.

    Hart,
I checked and they seem to be two completely different programs and companies.

There are a lot of PDF programs out in the market - it’s hard to keep up at times. I’ve got a list of 30 pdf programs to look at.

2007, ha! You’re not expecting pdf functionality to be in the new MS Office? :-)

That’s weird. I guess I must have been too sleepy at the time when I looked - just got back from cottage last night and had 844 emails in 2 days. Me see things.

My tax software allows me to convert and print returns into pdf format and 4 pages per page, and I can email to clients for a preliminary review. I don’t use it often but when I need it - it’s invaluable. Tax season is over now until 2007, so I’m in no rush.
