A few months ago word came out that Microsoft was going to include PDF functionality in their next version of Office.
When Microsoft quietly let the world know it surprised many - because it was done with little fanfare. But it was clear why they decided upon this. Government said they would only use office suites that only supported open formats … like PDF.
Microsoft has literally been dragged kicking and screaming into accepting open standards (remember: Microsoft have made their billions on stringent proprietary software over the years), but times are a changin’, hence their move to include PDF in Office 2007 - and the people (that’ll be the customers who fork out the money for such products) have been asking for this for years.

The PDF format today is generally accepted as the industry standard in electronically sending and receiving documents.
In days gone by you had to have the Adode Acrobat software that cost you a mint (and still does). Not any more. These days there’s a deluge of third-party software companies offering a variety of pdf tools.

Previously I introduced you to a free online pdf generator - Need to Create a Quick PDF? - that allowed you to create a PDF document online within minutes.
But for those that like to have a little control (ie: like me you still feel more comfortable doing it from the desktop) then PrimoPDF may be more suitable for you.
PrimoPDF is a free PDF converter (9.8Mb). It simply acts as a printer driver so when you are ready with your document you select print but rather than printing it out you select the PrimoPDF option. From there you get a basic set of options to choose from, including various security features.
For those that just need the basics (with just a little cool stuff included) then this one is for you. For information publishers, it’s a must-have item in your bag of tools.
