42% of Bloggers Look to Information Products to Monetize their Blogs

More professional bloggers are looking at monetizing their blogs via information products according to a recent survey.

According to the survey, 42% of those surveyed plan to monetize their blogs by creating and marketing their own information products - a big jump from the 29% at the start of the year.

Jennifer Tribe writing at her blog The Sideroad has written a post asking What is an Information Product?

Information products create passive streams of revenue, that is, money that flows to you whether you’re working at your desk, lazing on the beach, or snoozing on the couch. How? You create the products once and then sell them over and over again. You make an initial investment of time and money and then reap the benefits in multiples. You can’t do that with time; you can’t sell the same hour twice.

Price Points: $47 … $67 … $97

Have you noticed the pricing of so many eBooks are $47, $67, $97 and so on. Why is that?

I guess it basically comes down to how any standard becomes the … standard. As with any product or service, many price points are tried and tested and once accepted they’re pushed hard onto the consumer. It eventually builds on itself and sure enough it becomes the standard by which everybody goes by.
